SUNNYVALE, Calif. (AP) — A California woman has been charged with murder in the execution of her own husband, saying he killed her with a gun she couldn't defend herself with.
It's the latest twist in a story that has riveted a region in Southern California, where tensions rise along racial and religious lines. Her alleged crime has prompted dozens of public comments and protests.
Cody Jameson-Clements, 43, says she was having trouble sleeping when a woman came over and said she had a gun in her pocket. She said they then started arguing about whether or not she had a legal right to bear arms.
Clements claimed that the woman pointed an assault rifle in his face and said, "Don't you believe in Jesus?''
The woman then showed the gun to her and shot Jameson-Clements in the head at close range.
Clements, who says he's a self-described Christian, died Monday from injuries sustained during the June 17 incident in a quiet beachside cul de sac off of Route 66. The two were sitting outside when the fight began.
The woman allegedly demanded that she surrender the gun but instead grabbed Jameson-Clements' gun and pointed it toward her head.
Her trial begins Dec. 4. It will also be held in the San Bernardino County jail.

The warmun rodeo returns. And I'm sure it will have some serious consequences.
What kind of a theme park has the world's largest, most massive animal park in Japan?
Mikuru Wakabayashi, the director of the park, has been trying to put together a theme park that is unique from anything we had in the past. It doesn't make the same things up from scratch, but the theme park has elements that we have never seen before, and it's designed to be truly fun.
If you could go to Japan one day and see every theme park in the world, which would you choose?
As if I have to chose the only one I can see. And that is Tokyo Disneyland. They had a big theme park called 'World's Fair' and then they moved away, and after that it was like there was no one.
You are one of the most passionate, energetic people I've ever met in Japan, so you might not want to take what you read here literally and go there.
But that doesn't mean I don't feel at home there. It's great to go to a country where people are still young, have good jobs, and I don't even have to ask for money. If I see my name anywhere with the word 'Japan' or 'Futari' and there is a theme park near it, I think the atmosphere would be different. I mean, I can't say I like Japan in itself, but I think it might be that good for my own personal image.
What do you think your favorite anime is?
There were some seasons I found personally appealing, including season 4 of Cowboy Bebop and season 5 of Gurren Lagann. And then there were episodes like this, where I was like "I want to watch that series." I felt I wanted to watch that series, so I went and got the series.
And you have been to all the Disneyland WorldWide events this year, right?
Yes, that's right. I'll be heading up to Walt Disney World at least once a week.
It's very early in the year for me to go to the Mickey and the Beanstalk attraction because my dad's vacation is taking place in about a week. But I can't really wait until the beginning of December. The first year there, I wasn't really sure I wanted to see anything, but I think I finally realized it was the right time to go this year.
You're just getting started with Disney. Where can we expect to see new rides?
Disney might do some rides that are entirely new to Disney World and the rest of the park. We'll know what to expect later.
